This is going to be multi-part series about how to get better in negotiations in your daily life. Why learning negotiation skills can help you in your career. In my opinion it’s a life skill.
These are one of those things that I wish I knew sooner. I have tried many of these techniques and I was surprised how effective they have been for me. I’m not great at it but I’m getting better every single day by practicing them consistently.
I hope this unlocks amazing opportunities for you as well. I learned these skills by Chris Voss. He is famous negotiator and has written a book Never split the difference.
I’m forever grateful to him.
Why This Matters
Learnings negotiation is crucial for daily conversation. Some of the main reasons why I wanted to learn the skills are as follows
Better negotiate with my boss for salary, projects and more.
Better negotiate with my kids.
Better negotiate while checking in hotels.
Better negotiate while requesting an airline upgrade.
Better negotiate a job offer.
There are many more reasons, these are just handful of them that I have used recently.
Overall, for me these skills have created new opportunity and my motivation is keep getting better at it and compound my skills.
